Kevin Wolf Speaks with Export Compliance Manager for Q&A on Working in Export Controls

Akin Gump international trade partner Kevin Wolf has been featured in the Export Compliance Manager article “NOT SO FAQs,” in which he discusses various issues pertaining to export controls as well as advice he would share—and wishes had been shared with him—about working in this field.
Wolf first notes that export controls “are important tools to accomplish various national security and foreign policy interests.” He describes the Export Control Reform Act of 2018 as a “terrific” law, with only a few things that he would change. Among them, he said, is that “it needs more authority to allow for the control of specific end uses and end-users in connection with novel and emerging human rights issues involving the use of widely available technologies that cannot be controlled through traditional lists of items.”
As for advice he would share, Wolf said one “secret” would be that there will be “requests to do a thousand different things. You will, however, only have time and resources for a hundred of them. So, focus on the hundred things you want to accomplish given the time and resources available rather than starting a thousand things that will never be finished.”
