Law360, in its article “ESG Practice Groups Rise Alongside GC Concerns,” quoted from Akin Gump’s Top 10 Topics for Directors report, focusing on its section on environment, social and governance (ESG), and discussed the depth and history of the firm's ESG practice.
Quoting the report, the publication noted that ESG issues are a major priority for boards of directors and general counsel this year, adding that some states, such as Illinois and New York, are already requiring companies to engage in ESG policies and provide board diversity and inclusion disclosures. The report is also quoted regarding the priorities for investors, saying that “investors are increasingly demanding company leaders for more information about how they manage climate-related risks.”
The publication also discussed the history of the firm’s ESG practice, noting that it originally launched in 2015 as part of the firm’s international trade group, and has since expanded into a cross-practice initiative with attorneys from cybersecurity, privacy and data protection, environment and natural resources, labor and litigation, among others.
