Reuters, in its three-part special report “The Echo Chamber” featuring the findings of a comprehensive examination of the Supreme Court’s docket over a nine-year period, quoted Akin Gump Supreme Court and appellate practice co-head Pratik Shah on the importance and value of D.C. firms having a Supreme Court practice.
In part two of the report, “Elite law firms spin gold from a rarefied niche: getting cases before the Supreme Court,” Shah told Reuters, “If you want your firm to be viewed as a Washington institution, you have to have a Supreme Court practice.” The publication also notes that Akin Gump is one of the few “elite” firms to successfully get its clients’ cases before the Supreme Court.
Shah and the firm’s Supreme Court and appellate practice have recently been the recipients of several awards and accolades. In September, Shah was named by the National Law Journal as among D.C.’s “Rising Stars,” and later that same month the Washington Business Journal named Shah one of their 2014 “Legal Champions.” In November, the National Law Journal, for the seventh consecutive year, named Akin Gump to its annual Appellate Hot List, which recognizes “firms with outstanding achievements before the U.S. Supreme Court, federal circuit courts and state courts of last resort.”
