For its article “As Japan aligns with U.S. chip curbs on China, some in Tokyo feel uneasy,” Reuters quoted Akin international trade partner Kevin Wolf. The article discusses Japan’s imposition of export controls on chips, aligning with U.S. attempts to restrict China’s access to semiconductor technology.

Reuters notes, however, that Japan is not applying a U.S. standard of presumption of denial and is limiting restrictions to specific tools, unlike the U.S.

Said Kevin, “The U.S. rules still restrict other items and services the others do not.”
