Daily Journal has quoted Akin Gump Supreme Court and appellate practice co-head Rex Heinke in the article “Law schools prepare for the future, teaching how to operate in virtual classrooms.” In light of the coronavirus pandemic and the possibility of video litigation once it subsides, the article reports that law schools have begun teaching students how to handle a courtroom remotely.

Heinke said he agrees that future lawyers should be ready for a new legal environment, where online tools play an important role. He also feels, however, that law schools in the United States are not doing enough to teach students the essential skills for trials in general.

“I think if you compare the training lawyers get against training doctors get in this country, there’s a huge difference with doctors being more prepared when they get out of medical school. I think it’s a real problem there,” Heinke said.
