The National Law Journal Profiles Akin Gump Summer Associate Michael Adame

The National Law Journal, as part of a look at the work that law students in Washington are doing for the summer, has profiled Akin Gump summer associate Michael Adame in the article “Harvard 3L Aims to Carve Niche in Regulation.” Adame, the article reports, has spent his time at the firm working with the regulatory practice getting “a firsthand look at how lawyers in Washington are sprinting to keep up with the myriad policy changes emerging from Washington under the Trump administration.”
For Adame, government regulation has long been a source of great interest. He told NLJ he has been able to work with various regulatory practices at Akin Gump, doing work that has included researching potential changes in international trade law and helping to develop a guide to advising clients on Food and Drug Administration rules. Getting up to speed quickly on some of the more obscure corners of federal agencies has been a challenge, he said, but the work is rewarding.
“A lot of law has to do with problems that have occurred, and looking backwards to fix them,” Adame said. “In regulatory law, hypothetically, you are drawing in stakeholders to solve or address a problem. I’ve always found this idea of, ‘How can we look forward rather than look back?’ as the more interesting question.”
