Akin lobbying & public policy partner and former senior Trump administration trade official Kelly Ann Shaw is quoted by The New York Times in an article titled, “Have Trump’s Tariffs Hit the ‘High-Water Mark’?” The article examines the Trump administration's decision to exempt tariffs on certain products not made domestically and how United States companies are responding.

Kelly Ann tells The New York Times that “some degree of tariff recalibration was always part of the plan,” but cautions that these more minor adjustments should not be mistaken for “a pivot.”

Citing the strength of the stock market, economic growth figures and billions in promised foreign investment, Kelly Ann says the Trump administration has “good reason” to believe its economic policies are working.

“From their perspective, they’ve bucked all orthodoxy and landed the plane,” she said.
