Akin regulatory and health care & life sciences partner Sara McLean is quoted by The Wall Street Journal in an article titled, “SolarWinds’ Tim Brown Escaped the SEC. Future Cyber Chiefs Might Not.” The article examines the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other government agencies’ recent approach regarding cybersecurity-related issues and enforcement.

Before joining the firm, Sara supervised civil fraud cases under the False Claims Act at the U.S. Department of Justice, where cases brought under the act for cyber-related issues have resulted in indictments and fines against companies and executives.

Sara tells The Wall Street Journal that as an outsider, it looks as though, “the SEC is backing off on cybersecurity enforcement,” but that she doesn’t “see that in other parts of the government.”
