(Washington, D.C.) – Akin announced today that Evan Wolff has joined the firm as co-head of the firm’s cybersecurity, privacy & data protection practice in Washington, D.C. As a renowned advisor with deep experience providing counsel to boards and c-suites of Fortune 100 companies, Wolff’s addition bolsters the firm’s cybersecurity, privacy & data protection practice, driving synergies within Akin’s regulatory group and its national security, international trade, artificial intelligence (AI) and government contracts practices. Wolff will be co-head of the cybersecurity, privacy & data protection practice alongside Natasha Kohne, who also co-leads the firm’s technology and AI practices.
Wolff joins Akin from Crowell & Moring, where he was co-chair of the firm’s privacy and cybersecurity group. His practice focuses on advising companies on proactive approaches to cybersecurity and data protection, investigation coordination after intrusions, data breaches and insurance-related issues. He represents a broad range of companies across multiple sectors, including government contractors, the defense industrial base, transportation, energy, health care, insurance, hospitality, education and non-profit organizations. His counsel is informed by his government and industry experience, having previously served as an advisor to the senior leadership at the Department of Homeland Security, and at MITRE as a policy analyst and data scientist.
“Cybersecurity and data protection remain among the highest priority for boards, c-suites and GCs as the stakes for companies have never been higher to manage their risks with new threats every day,” said Akin co-chair Abid Qureshi. “Evan’s counsel will be an asset for our clients and our practice, and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”
“Evan brings a deep technical background and understanding of complex cybersecurity, legal and policy issues, and his experience fits perfectly within our regulatory group, including our national security, export controls, telecommunications, CFIUS and government contracts practices,” said Tom McCarthy, head of Akin’s regulatory group. “Privacy and cybersecurity are among the most important issues for regulatory and government-facing practices, and we are pleased to be adding top talent in this critical area.”
“I am excited to be joining Akin’s global platform, with complementary practices to my cybersecurity, privacy and data protection work, including the firm’s regulatory group, with premier national security, international trade, AI and government contracts practices,” said Wolff on his move to the firm. “I look forward to working in conjunction with Natasha Kohne as co-head of the practice and guide our clients through an evolving cybersecurity and privacy landscape.”
