Hire Deepens Firm’s Integrated Funds and Capital Solutions Platform as Evergreen and Insurance-Focused Vehicles Reshape Private Credit
(Los Angeles) – Akin announced today that Richard Shamos has joined the firm as a partner in its investment management practice and funds group in Los Angeles, deepening Akin’s integrated platform for sponsors raising, structuring and deploying private credit and alternative capital at a time when evergreen vehicles and insurance capital are reshaping the market.
Richard advises sponsors building credit‑focused fund platforms, including private credit and direct lending vehicles, evergreen and hybrid structures, and insurance‑rated note feeders. He also brings significant experience advising buyout and growth capital sponsors, extending Akin’s bench in an increasingly integrated market.
“Credit and evergreen funds are central to how sponsors are raising capital today, and Richard brings deep experience across precisely those products,” said Akin co-chair Abid Qureshi. “His arrival strengthens our platform built to advise sponsors and investors across the full credit lifecycle: how capital is raised, how it is structured, how it is deployed and how it is protected.”
“Richard meaningfully expands our depth in core growth areas that are critical to our funds clients—particularly private credit, evergreen structures, and insurance-focused products—and that fits precisely with how our capital solutions clients are building permanent capital platforms,” said Barbara Niederkofler, co-leader of the firm’s investment management practice.
“Akin has a premier private funds platform centered on innovative and bespoke structures, and clients benefit from full-service fund structuring and capital solutions platforms. That integration is what drew me here,” said Richard. “I look forward to extending the firm’s funds capabilities on the West Coast and helping sponsors build the permanent capital vehicles the market increasingly demands.”
Richard joins from Kirkland & Ellis, where he was a partner in the West Coast investment funds group.
