Akin Advises Energy Transfer on Strategic Crude Oil Pipeline Joint Venture with Enbridge

(Houston) – Akin advised Energy Transfer LP on the formation of a strategic joint venture with Enbridge Inc. to construct, own and operate the Southern Illinois Connector project, a new 24-inch crude oil pipeline that will connect the Platte Pipeline near Wood River, Illinois to the Energy Transfer Crude Oil Pipeline (ETCOP) near Patoka, Illinois. The project, which will be jointly owned 50/50 by Energy Transfer and Enbridge, was recently sanctioned after the companies completed an open season that resulted in 100,000 Bbls/day of long-term contracts that provide shippers with full-path crude oil pipeline transportation service from Western Canada to Nederland, Texas on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
