(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump was among the recipients of the National Legal Aid & Defender Association’s (NLADA) Beacon of Justice Awards, presented at the organization’s Exemplar Awards Virtual Gala, held last night.

The awards honor law firms with pro bono programs serving vulnerable people fleeing to the U.S. border. Akin Gump has been honored with the NLADA Beacon of Justice Award on multiple occasions since the award was instituted, including seven times in the award’s first nine years.

In a joint letter NLADA’s president and CEO Jo-Ann Wallace and its board chair Kelli Thompson spoke of the Beacon of Justice awardees as “law firms exemplifying the very definition of leadership with their steadfast and relentless pro bono legal work at our borders.”
