(Washington, D.C.) – Akin is pleased to announce that projects and energy transition partner Vanessa Richelle Wilson has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Previously she was U.S. head of the energy and natural resources sector at DLA Piper.

Wilson focuses her practice on a wide range of energy transactions including renewable generation projects, energy storage facilities, hydrogen production facilities, transmission systems, gas-fired power generation facilities, and natural gas pipelines. She advises on M&A, financing and development transactions for clients including energy infrastructure funds, energy development companies, tax equity investors, utilities and transmission owners and companies.  Vanessa also works on behalf of corporate buyers in the procurement of RECs and renewable energy via on-site, off-site and virtual PPAs.

“Our global projects & energy transition practice continues to expand, driven by increasing client demand for experienced teams to handle their most complex transactions,” said Akin chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “Vanessa complements our growing practice and I’m delighted to welcome her to the firm.”

Corporate practice co-head Zachary Wittenberg added, “Vanessa adds depth to our projects and energy transition practice with capabilities in M&A, joint ventures, tax equity and tax credit transfer transactions and offtake arrangements.  Her experience will help our clients leverage increased capital deployment opportunities and transactional deal flow spurred by the Inflation Reduction Act.”

Wilson is the latest in a series of high profile additions to Akin’s comprehensive energy practice, including projects & energy transition partners Ike Emehelu (New York), Alex Harrison, Matt Hardwick and Dan Giemajner (London), energy regulatory partners Emily Mallen and Stephen Hug (Washington, D.C.) and tax equity partner Sam Guthrie (Washington, D.C.).

“Akin is widely known as a leader in the energy space and has an outstanding platform for transactions driving the path to decarbonization,” said Wilson on her move. “I’m thrilled to be joining the team.”
