Corporate Counsel Names Kim Koopersmith a Women, Influence & Power in Law Award Winner

(New York) – Corporate Counsel has profiled Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith as one of its 2019 Women, Influence & Power in Law Award winners. The publication notes that each of the honorees was chosen for demonstrating “extraordinary leadership and business acumen” as well as for their “personal dedication to the promotion of diversity in the legal industry.”
As part of the profile, Ms. Koopersmith discussed some of the best leadership advice she has received, stressing the importance of taking charge of one’s own career, developing skills and understanding a client’s business. She also said it is important to “own your competence and let it show, not as arrogance, but as confidence. The industry will not give you your career.”
As for the most valuable career advice she has received, Ms. Koopersmith said what stands out is that “ambition is not a bad word. …People want to be led by someone who wants to lead and thinks they will do so successfully.”
