(Houston) – Tahirih Justice Center, with which Akin Gump has a longstanding partnership, has raised more than $530,000 at its annual event in Houston, Journey to Justice: Hope & Healing. The firm was among the top sponsors for the event.
Akin Gump corporate partner Cynthia Mabry, who served as the event’s co-chair with husband Chad Mabry, said, “It has an amazing experience and a true honor to be a part of Tahirih’s event this year. I am incredibly proud of the effort and dedication of the event committees and the Tahirih staff who worked incredibly hard to achieve this fantastic result. The funds will assist Tahirih in its vital efforts to help immigrant survivors of gender-based violence on their difficult journey to justice, particularly following an especially challenging year.”
The Tahirih Justice Center is a national nonprofit that provides direct representation, public advocacy and social services for women and girls who face gender-based violence. Earlier this year, firm employees traveled more than 41,000 miles as part of the firm’s “Stand Against Hate” campaign. As a result, the firm made a $50,000 donation split between Tahirih Justice Center, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and Human Rights Watch. (Learn more here.)
