James Benjamin to Receive Award from Office of the Appellate Defender

(New York) – James Benjamin Jr., a leader of Akin Gump’s white collar defense practice, will be one of two recipients of the Milton S. Gould Award for Outstanding Oral Advocacy at the Office of the Appellate Defender’s 29th Annual First Monday in October Gala and Mock Supreme Court Argument.

OAD is a premier nonprofit law firm and one of New York’s oldest providers of legal representation to people who cannot afford an attorney on appeal.

The event, for which Akin Gump will serve as a sponsor, will be held on October 3 at Tribeca 360º in New York. Aside from receiving his award, Mr. Benjamin will also serve as counsel for petitioner—his co-honoree serving as counsel for respondent—in mock Supreme Court oral argument on “Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard College: Do race-sensitive admission practices in higher education institutions violate Title VI of the Civil Rights Act?”
