Kim Koopersmith Elected to NAACP Legal Defense Fund Board of Directors

(New York) – Akin Gump is proud to announce that its chairperson, Kim Koopersmith, has been elected to membership on the board of directors of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. Ms. Koopersmith’s term runs until November 2017.
Called “simply the best civil rights law firm in American history” by President Obama, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF), according to its mission statement, seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. LDF also defends the gains and protections won over the past 75 years of civil rights struggle and works to improve the quality and diversity of judicial and executive appointments.
Ms. Koopersmith is an active participant and supporter of nongovernmental organizations in the legal assistance space. In April, she became co-chair of the Pro Bono Institute’s Law Firm Pro Bono Project Advisory Committee, which works to fully integrate pro bono into law firm culture and practice. (Learn more here.)
