Scott Parven Named to U.S. Chamber’s U.S.-Cuba Business Council Board, Also to Serve as Co-Chair of Legislative Working Group

(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump public law and policy partner Scott Parven, who leads the firm’s Cuba policy initiative, has been named to the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Cuba Business Council. Additionally, Mr. Parven will co-chair the USCBC’s Legislative Working Group. Akin Gump is the only law firm currently represented on the latter body.
Launched in September 2015, the U.S.-Cuba Business Council exists as a “formal commitment by the American business community to build a strong and strategic commercial relationship between Cuba and the United States.” The Council will lead strategic efforts to maximize the potential of the U.S.-Cuba economic and trade partnership by advocating for to enhance commercial and investment opportunities by U.S. businesses in Cuba.
The USCBC board’s first meeting, in early November, will be in Havana, coinciding with the first U.S. business delegation trip to the Cuban Investment Fair at the request of the Cuban government.
