(Dallas) – VerdictSearch, an affiliate of Texas Lawyer, has selected two of Akin Gump’s cases among the “Top Defense Wins for Intellectual Property” of 2013 in the publication’s annual “Top Texas Verdicts and Settlements.”
The publication noted Todd Landis, Eric Klein and Daniel Moffett for representing the defendants in Hitachi Consumer Electronics Company Ltd. and Hitachi Advanced Digital Inc. v. Top Victory Electronics (Taiwan) Company Ltd., et al. In this matter, Hitachi accused Akin Gump clients TPV and VIZIO of infringing several of the Hitachi’s television receiver patents. When the TPV case went to trial, meticulous preparation and expert testimony combined to establish that there was no infringement of these patents and that several of the patents were invalid, thereby securing a complete defense verdict for TPV (VIZIO had settled the matter favorably outside of the courtroom).
In Personalized Media Communications LLC v. Zynga Inc., VerdictSearch noted Steve Zager and Todd Landis for successfully representing Zynga, a leading online social gaming company, in a patent infringement suit brought by Personalized Media Communications (PMC). Akin Gump secured a complete defense verdict of non-infringement—a rare ruling in the Eastern District of Texas—on behalf of Zynga. The case marked the first time a defendant had taken PMC, which had previously brought and settled cases against tech industry leaders for hundreds of millions of dollars, to trial. More on that case can be found here.
