Alabama Prohibits Public Contracts with Companies Boycotting Key Sectors and Social Policies

Summary

Enacted in June 2023, this law prohibits state governmental entities from entering into public contracts with companies that boycott other companies based on being in certain sector (fossil fuel-based energy, firearms), failing to meet environmental standards or corporate governance criteria (disclosure criteria; corporate employment or board composition, compensation, or disclosure criteria), or not facilitating abortion or sex/gender change surgery, medications, treatment or therapies.
