May 12, 2020

Summary

Amended in 2020, Florida Statute § 760.80 notes that the legislature intends to recognize the importance of minority persons to membership on regulatory boards, commissions, councils, and committees. The law specifies that in appointing members to statutorily created boards, members should be picked from qualified persons to reflect "the proportion of each group of minority persons . . . in the population of the area represented by the board." The law defines minority persons to include African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, and women.
