HB 21-1212: Colorado Requires Efforts to Appoint Diverse State Board Members

Summary

HB 21-1212 was passed in May 2021 and became effective in January 2022. It requires the Colorado governor to make reasonable efforts to appoint members of diverse groups to statewide boards, commissions, committees, and task forces authorized by the general assembly. As defined by this law, diversity includes geographic diversity ("members from both rural and urban parts of the state") and demographic diversity ("members of diverse political, racial, disability, and cultural groups and of diverse sexual orientations and genders").
