Biography
  • Finance lawyer focused on distressed debt, special situations investments and financial restructurings with experience in the US and European markets.

Colin has experience advising both borrowers and lenders in cross-border financings, with a focus on syndicated and direct lending transactions, leveraged financings, acquisition financings, high-yield bonds, mezzanine structures, financial restructurings, distressed debt investments and special situations investments.

Prior to Akin, Colin worked for an international law firm in its leveraged finance practice, as well as an international law firm in its tax practice. He has also worked as a legal secondee at a London-based investment fund focusing on distressed debt and special situations investments. Prior to law school, he worked at Bloomberg BNA as an international tax analyst.

  • A UK-based investment fund in a series of financings for various Luxembourg fund entities with a U.S. lender, including subscription financings, coinvest financings, and bespoke financings with investors.*
  • The private credit arm of a global asset manager as lead arranger and administrative agent in connection with a $260 million senior secured credit facility to support the acquisition of a computer software company by a private equity firm.*
  • The private credit arm of a global asset manager as joint lead arranger and administrative agent in connection with a $95 million senior secured credit facility to support the acquisition of a digital marketing agency by a private equity firm.*
  • Inspired Entertainment, Inc., a gaming technology company, on its offering of £235 million 7.875% senior secured notes due 2026 and its entry into a new £20 million super senior revolving facility.*
  • Crayhill Capital Management on its $200 million financing of Heroes, a UK-based technology-driven ecommerce company.*
  • Crayhill Capital Management on the $300 million financing for unybrands, an integrated platform for e-commerce businesses.*

  • A water midstream company in its financed acquisition of a water treatment and recycling company.*
  • A privately held refining company in complex refinancing transactions involving a $612 million secured tax-exempt bond issuance, a $600 million secured tax-exempt bond redemption, a $90 million senior secured revolving credit facility and a $115 million secured inventory monetization and intermediation facility.*
  • A privately held wind and solar development company in a $45 million senior secured credit facility.*
  • An electric company in its purchase of 100 percent of the interests in a holding company, which owned a New Jersey power plant valued at $450 million.*
  • An underwriter in a NYSE-listed master limited partnership’s offering of retail preferred units valued at approximately $180 million.*
