- Advises U.S. and international clients on various international trade law matters, including U.S. economic sanctions, export controls and trade policy.
Liz advises clients on a range of international trade matters, regulatory compliance, transactional matters, and litigation and investigations involving economic sanctions, export controls, Securing the Information and Communications Technology and Services (ICTS)/supply chain issues, and tariffs. Her industry experience includes transportation and logistics, semiconductors, technology, emerging technologies, manufacturing, telecommunications, automotive, defense, trade associations, retail, private clients, automotive and pharmaceuticals. She advises companies on OFAC sanctions compliance, EAR/ITAR disclosures and responses to administrative and grand jury subpoenas from Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the Department of Justice. Liz also advises clients on tariffs and customs classifications, trade due diligence and international M&A transactions, Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) reviews, compliance program audits and regulatory disclosures.
Prior to joining Akin, Liz was an international trade associate at a large law firm in Washington, DC, where she provided comprehensive trade subject-matter expertise and litigation skills. She also served as a litigation associate and summer associate at another leading global law firm in Chicago. Before the practice of law, Liz worked in weapons of mass destruction (WMD) nonproliferation policy at think tanks and completed a two-year Fulbright Grant in South Korea.
Liz received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was a research assistant for the Annual Review of Criminal Procedure. She holds an M.P.P. in international and global affairs from Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government, and a Master in Economic Law, Global Governance Studies from Sciences Po Law School. She received her B.A. in global studies and psychology, with a French minor, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
