Biography

Jay’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, international arbitration, civil fraud and regulatory investigations. Jay is also accredited as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E) and has specialisms in the technology, finance, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence sectors.

Representative Work

Commercial Litigation

  • Acted for Dr Lynch, Autonomy Corporation’s former CEO, in the UK’s highest value civil trial to-date and connected U.S. criminal proceedings, in connection with allegations of fraud linked to Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s US$11.7 billion acquisition of Autonomy Corporation in 2011. *
  • Assisted one of Wall Street’s best-known hedge funds with managing their litigation risk following investment in a technology venture capital fund.
  • Provided strategic litigation advice to the buyer of one of the UK’s biggest electrical retail chains in relation to investigations conducted by its liquidators.
  • Successfully defended an application against disclosure of privileged witness statements, pursuant to a U.S. Grand Jury subpoena. *
  • Advised Airbus in relation to a multi-jurisdictional investigation into alleged corruption and bribery by the aircraft manufacturer. *
  • Advised a sovereign wealth fund in defending proceedings brought by HM Revenue and Customs in connection with an alleged Stamp Duty Land Tax avoidance scheme, in the UK Supreme Court. *

International Arbitration

  • Represented a national sporting oversight body in an arbitration brought before the ICC dispute panel.*
  • Advised an international developmental investment bank in a variety of related claims brought against it for breach of contract.*

Cyber security, Artificial Intelligence and Technology

  • Advised a multinational data center provider in relation to cyber security and related contentious matters.
  • Advised a leading developer and manufacturer of smart speakers on an in-app update of its terms and conditions and related legal issues.
  • Represented the former CEO of a software and machine learning company in litigation, including conducting technical witness interviews with the CEO of one of the UK’s leading AI cyber security companies. *
