Julie Busta’s practice centers on complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution, with an emphasis on class action defense involving claims of consumer fraud, violations of privacy and false and deceptive practices.
Julie has substantial experience defending class actions in federal courts for clients in the telecommunications and retail industries. These class actions involve claims brought under a variety of state and federal statutes, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), California Consumer Privacy Act, California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA) and Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
Before joining Akin Gump, Julie practiced complex multi-district litigation with a boutique litigation firm in Washington, D.C.
- Represented a telecommunications company in the defense of a putative class action asserting claims for false and deceptive advertising and unfair business practices.
- Represented a telecommunications company in the defense of a putative class action asserting claims under the CIPA.
- Represented a telecommunications company in the defense of a putative class action asserting claims under the FCRA.
- Assisted a major retailer in defense of TCPA class actions.
