- Represents developers, sponsors, tax-equity investors, lenders and other stakeholders in the acquisition, development and financing of power generation and infrastructure projects.
- Advises clients in the energy & infrastructure sectors on complex project development matters including engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, operations and maintenance agreements; equipment purchase and sale contracts; asset management agreements; energy management agreements; and master services agreements.
Kimia advises clients across the energy, infrastructure and finance sectors, with a particular focus on tax equity financing. Kimia has significant experience advising on tax equity investments, project financings and renewable energy transactions, as well as negotiating complex engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts. She regularly counsels clients on regulatory compliance and corporate governance, and has played a key role in the development, acquisition and financing of large-scale solar, wind, and battery storage projects across the United States.
While in law school, Kimia was involved in the Texas Business Law Society and the University of Texas School of Law’s Actual Innocence Clinic. She also served as a legislative intern for State Senator Judith Zaffirini and as a prison litigation/criminal justice reform intern for the Texas Civil Rights Project.
Kimia was a member of Akin’s 2019 and 2020 summer associate classes.
- Represented Excelsior Energy Capital, a renewable energy infrastructure fund, in its acquisition of the 682.5 MW Faraday Solar project in Utah County, Utah from Parasol and Clenera.
- Represented Excelsior Energy Capital, a renewable energy infrastructure fund, in its $1.3 billion dollar financing package (consisting of tax equity and debt financing) for the 682.5 MW Faraday Solar project in Utah County, Utah.
- Represented a private equity infrastructure fund in connection with the negotiation of a $225 million NAV (net asset value) facility from a major bank for their sophomore fund, which are novel debt facilities for financing renewable energy.
- Represented a national bank in connection with the negotiation and execution of a tax equity commitment for a 275 MW solar project that includes a large battery storage system.
- Represented a non-financial corporate investor in connection with the negotiation and execution of a tax equity commitment for a 350 MW solar project.
