Lacy M. Lawrence is a results-oriented commercial trial lawyer who has tried cases in state and federal courts throughout Texas and across the country in a variety of forums. She has also tried a significant number of contested matters and adversary proceedings in bankruptcy courts in Texas and across the country.  

Ms. Lawrence has been named a “Texas Rising Star” for commercial litigation.

Ms. Lawrence has developed a reputation as a “go-to” trial lawyer, with significant experience trying cases in both federal and state court and before juries, judges and arbitrators. She has handled a wide array of complex commercial litigation, including high-stakes financial restructuring and energy-related disputes and matters for telecom, real estate and accounting firm clients.  Ms. Lawrence uses her significant experience, excellent judgment and remarkable aptitude to formulate and execute litigation and trial strategies that obtain results and accomplish her clients’ business and litigation objectives.

Ms. Lawrence is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association and the Dallas Bar Association. She has also served as an Associate with the Patrick E. Higginbotham American Inn of Court.

Trials and Arbitrations

Ms. Lawrence has played the lead or a significant role in the following:

  • obtaining a complete defense victory after a two-week jury trial in Texas federal court involving a variety of commercial claims and alleged damages in excess of $10 million
  • successfully prosecuting a motion to dismiss in the Southern District of New York and obtaining complete dismissal of all claims by all plaintiffs alleging $120 million in damages
  • successfully representing a coalition of 89 Texas school districts in major litigation related to the adequacy of the school finance system in Texas after the state Legislature reduced school funding by more than $5 billion and achieving a favorable ruling after a bench trial lasting more than three months
  • obtaining a complete defense verdict and award of attorneys’ fees after a two-week jury trial in a mineral rights dispute in Texas state court
  • obtaining a favorable multimillion-dollar settlement for the plaintiff in a commercial fraud case
  • obtaining summary judgment in favor of the defendant regarding all claims seeking to rescind a sale transaction involving more than $450 million
  • successfully prosecuting a motion to dismiss on jurisdictional issues in Texas federal court and obtaining dismissal of all claims
  • obtaining a favorable defense settlement on the eve of an arbitration hearing involving millions of dollars in commercial claims.

Bankruptcy Litigation and Appeal

Ms. Lawrence has played the lead or a significant role in the following:

  • successfully defeating confirmation of the debtors’ plan after a two-week trial in the Central District of California Bankruptcy Court
  • successfully obtaining confirmation of a multibillion-dollar plan over the other competing plan after an extended, contested confirmation hearing in the Southern District of Texas Bankruptcy Court
  • successfully defending against multiple, multimillion-dollar claims for a reorganization trust before the bankruptcy court in the Central District of Illinois
  • successfully prosecuting and defending a variety of claims and causes of action for the reorganized debtor in the Western District of Texas Bankruptcy Court
  • successfully defending postconfirmation appeals for a reorganization trust before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals
  • successfully defending postconfirmation challenges to the plan of reorganization before the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals
  • successfully settling a make-whole claim, leading the way to confirmation of a plan of reorganization before bankruptcy court in Delaware
  • successfully litigating priming fight on behalf of a debtor-in-posession lender in the early days of a bankruptcy pending in the Southern District of Texas
  • successfully affirming a bankruptcy court confirmation ruling before the District Court and 5th Circuit Court of Appeals
  • successfully prosecuting and defending multiple contested matters in a multibillion-dollar bankruptcy case before the Southern District of Texas.

Community Involvement

Ms. Lawrence currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance and is a member of the Junior League of Dallas.
