Matthew Hawkins represents clients before the administration and provides strategic planning on a variety of international and domestic public policy issues. He also provides monitoring services for clients on congressional and federal agency legislative and regulatory developments.
Prior to joining Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, Mr. Hawkins served as special assistant to Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). He traveled the country with Mr. Priebus, assisting him in efforts to raise funds for the RNC and win the 2014 Midterm elections. Prior to his work with the RNC, Mr. Hawkins served as the staff assistant and then legislative correspondent to Rep. John Carter (R-TX), chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee of the Department of Homeland Security Committee. In these roles, he attended relevant committee hearings and briefings, Whip meetings and policy briefings by House leadership, and produced summaries and reports for the legislative team and the congressman. He also researched and tracked legislation and drafted legislative correspondence for constituents. Mr. Hawkins also served as an intern for House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX).
