Akin Gump a Two-Time Winner in 2015 Am Law Global Legal Awards

(Washington, D.C.) – In its third annual Global Legal Awards, which recognize “law offices that played a substantial role in the most distinguished international work” performed in 2014 and 2015, The American Lawyer recognized Akin Gump’s work on two matters in the categories of international finance and M&A, respectively:

• Akin Gump’s work with Aurelius Capital as part of the bankruptcy proceedings of NII, telecoms company Nextel’s Latin American arm, was recognized as part of the Global Finance Deal of the Year: Restructuring (U.S.).
• The firm’s work with VimpelCom Ltd on the sale by its subsidiary Global Telecom Holding of its stake in Orascom Telecom Algérie was recognized as part of the Global M&A Deal of the Year: Africa.

Additionally, Akin Gump counseled Duff & Phelps as joint financial advisor to the Special Committee of Giant Interactive Group in the company’s $3 billion take-private transaction. That transaction was recognized as the Global M&A Deal of the Year: China.
