(Hong Kong) – The privatization of Giant Interactive Group, on which Akin Gump served as counsel to Duff & Phelps, has been recognized as a 2014 Deal of the Year by Asian-MENA Counsel. Duff & Phelps served as joint financial advisor to Giant’s special committee.
Noted by the media as the second-largest PE-backed privatization of a U.S.-listed Chinese company, the $3 billion transaction required, according to Asian-MENA Counsel, “a merger between a consortium of affiliates subsequent to its de-listing from the NYSE…[and] one of the first to employ a toehold investment structure…in order to initially forego filing a form 13D.”
The Akin Gump team advising Duff & Phelps was led by Hong Kong corporate partner and Asia practice head Greg Puff, supported by partner Zach Wittenberg and associate Michelle Chan.
This transaction has also been recognized by China Business Law Journal as a Deal of the Year (learn more here) and at the IFLR Asia Awards as Private Equity Deal of the Year (learn more here).
Founded in 1945, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
