(Washington, D.C.) – Suren E. Gortsunyan will join Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP in Moscow as a partner in the international corporate transactions practice, the firm announced today.

Mr. Gortsunyan advises both Russian and Western companies on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, joint ventures and corporate restructurings.  His clients include companies in the real estate, retail/consumer, telecommunications, oil services, financial services and industrial sectors.

Rick L. Burdick, managing partner for Akin Gump’s international offices, said,  “For more than two decades Akin Gump’s Moscow office has been active in some of the most important matters in the region, representing both Russian and Western companies. Suren’s appointment, which follows the arrival in May of a team of tax specialists in our Moscow office, reaffirms our commitment to the Russian market as it emerges from the financial crisis and continues to grow.  We are very pleased to welcome Suren to Akin Gump.”

Mr. Gortsunyan added, “I am very pleased to join Akin Gump, a firm with a depth and breadth of corporate transactional experience that clients – in Moscow and beyond – require. It has always been professionally exciting to work with many Akin Gump partners on the other side of the table, and I am looking forward to now working side by side with them.”

Mr. Gortsunyan received his LL.B. in 1997 and his diploma specialist in jurisprudence in 1998 from the Russian Law Academy.  He joins the firm from Hogan Lovells, where he was a partner.

Mr. Gortsunyan is the fifth partner to join Akin Gump’s corporate practice in recent months, following Ilya Rybalkin (Moscow), Dino Barajas and Elliot Hinds (Los Angeles), and Chadi Salloum (Abu Dhabi).
