(London, United Kingdom) – Greg Hammond has joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in London as a partner in the energy and international corporate transactions practices.

“Greg will increase the depth and breadth of services we can provide our clients globally,” said Doug Glass, Akin Gump’s senior London energy partner.  “He is a superb lawyer with an outstanding reputation who perfectly complements our existing team.  His arrival enhances our English law practice, with particular emphasis on energy strength.  We are very pleased to welcome him to Akin Gump.”

Michael E. Dillard, the Houston-based leader of Akin Gump’s energy and global transactions practice, added, “Greg’s location in London and his considerable cross-border energy experience will be a tremendous benefit to our energy clients.  I look forward to working with Greg on the many cross-border deals anticipated by energy industry observers in the coming business quarters as global economic conditions continue to improve.  He is a most welcome and timely addition to our already impressive energy team.”

For nearly two decades, Mr. Hammond has been active in the corporate arena, representing governments, public and private corporations, banks and multilateral agencies in major corporate finance transactions.  His practice encompasses M&A, private equity, capital markets and joint ventures across a number of sectors, both in the UK and internationally.  In particular, he has significant experience advising on matters relating to the oil and gas and energy industries, where his clients comprise the full range of energy industry participants, including private equity houses, public and private oil companies, NOCs and service companies.  His recent representations include a leading Russian oil company in its multibillion-dollar disposal of a Russian crude producer and a private equity house in the disposal of a global food business for more than $600 million.

Mr. Hammond received his B.A. from St. John’s College, Cambridge University in 1986 and his M.A. from Cambridge University in 1990.  He joins the firm from White & Case, where he was a partner for 10 years.

Mr. Hammond said, “Akin Gump’s leading market position in areas such as energy and private equity will enhance my practice.  In particular, the firm has a genuine strength in the major global energy centers of Houston, London, Moscow and Abu Dhabi, which few other true energy firms can match.  I am very pleased to be joining the firm, and look forward to adding to Akin Gump’s impressive track record of transactions throughout CIS and the energy markets generally.”
