Akin Gump hiring partner David Botter has been quoted in the Reuters story “Delayed summer associate recruiting kicks off with Zoom tips and buoyed law firm demand.” The article reports that law firm recruiting, delayed by the pandemic, is finally under way.
Firms typically interview rising second-year law students in late July or early August, the article says, but many schools postponed the process to this month. Despite the pandemic, Reuters reports that Akin Gump is among the firms that expect their new summer hires to match or even exceed past years, with Botter noting that the firm will likely welcome a summer class in the typical range of 50 to 55 associates.
Speaking of the delayed recruiting calendar, Botter added that it wound up helping the firm better gauge its staffing needs, “because we are that much closer to when these students will actually start to practice law.”
