Akin Gump Joins Other U.S. Law Firms in Calling for Renewed Funding of Legal Services Corporation

(New York) – Akin Gump has joined more than 150 other law firms from across the United States as a signatory to a letter to the director of the Office of Management and Budget calling for the continued funding of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC). The letter, which is signed by the leaders of the respective firms, comes amid reports that the Trump administration is considering defunding the LSC, which is responsible for ensuring there is legal aid funding available in every county of every state.
Akin Gump was one of six firms that initially pushed for the letter, each of which worked to garner support from the larger group in a very short period of time. The letter’s signatories and their firms devote millions of hours of pro bono service, in offices covering all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The LSC is the single-largest funder of civil legal aid in the United States.
