Akin Gump Ranks Very Highly in Global Restructuring Review’s Inaugural GRR 30
(London) – Akin Gump has been recognized as one of the top firms for restructuring and insolvency by Global Restructuring Review at the publication’s inaugural GRR Awards 2017. The awards presentation, which was held in London, corresponded with the launch of the GRR 100 and the GRR 30 where Akin Gump was ranked second for financial restructuring and insolvency matters.
In announcing the list of those included at the very top of the GRR 30, Global Restructuring Review noted that Akin Gump had “another stellar year,” having advised the official committee of unsecured creditors in the liquidation process and subsequent allocation disputes over Nortel’s assets.
The firm was also cited for its work on behalf of a steering committee of bondholders of Winsway Enterprises to restructure more than $300 million and its work advising an ad hoc committee of noteholders of Gulf Keystone, leading to an arrangement to restructure $575 million worth of debt. In addition, Akin Gump was noted for its role advising on the restructuring of more than $33 billion in bonds issued by Icelandic banks Glitnir, Kaupthing and Landsbanki.
At the GRR Awards, the following cases on which Akin Gump was named a leading legal advisor, were recognized:
- the Winsway restructuring, which was named the winner for “Most important recognition decision”
- the Nortel restructuring, which was named the winner for “Cross-border cooperation in a specific insolvency or restructuring matter”
GRR’s sister publication, Who’s Who Legal, named Akin Gump “Restructuring Firm of the Year in 2016, as noted here; furthermore, in the equivalent guide for 2017, the firm has 10 lawyers included in the its list of leading international financial restructuring lawyers.
