Akin Gump Sponsors “Best of Congress” Event Honoring Legislators Who Advocate for Working Families

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP was proud to serve as a principal sponsor of the 2012 Best of Congress Gala Awards event held on July 25 in Washington, D.C., to honor members of Congress who support legislation and policies that foster work-life balance and family-friendly workplaces. The event was organized by Corporate Voices for Working Families and Working Mother Media. In addition to sponsoring the event, members of the firm were on hand to assist in the presentation of the awards to the honorees.
Thirty legislators from both parties in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate were honored on the basis of their voting records regarding family-friendly legislation as well as of the benefits they provide their own staffs, constituent casework and other activities that demonstrated their commitment to, and support of, working families.
Akin Gump has a longstanding track record of promoting a family-friendly workplace environment. Among the initiatives adopted by the firm is a formal “reduced workload” policy that has enabled attorneys to fulfill both family and work responsibilities. Additionally, the firm was among the first in Washington, D.C., to offer an in-house childcare center.
