Akin Gump Wins "Deal of the Year" Award

(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has been recognized by The M&A Advisor for its leading role in the reorganization of Pierre Foods, the firm announced today. The firm was presented with the “Food and Beverage Deal of the Year” Award at The M&A Advisor’s 3rd Annual Turnaround Awards Gala, held at The Colony in Palm Beach, Florida, on March 16.

Akin Gump was lauded for its representation of the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Pierre Foods, Inc., a leading food manufacturer, marketer and distributor. Under Akin Gump’s guidance, the Committee negotiated debtor-in-possession financing and a consensual plan of reorganization with the Debtors and the Debtors’ secured lenders. As a result of this plan of reorganization, Pierre Foods was able to emerge from bankruptcy approximately five months after the cases began and before significant erosion of its business and distributable value to creditors could occur.

The Turnaround Awards Gala recognizes excellence in deal-making in the distressed investing, restructuring and turnaround marketplace. An independent body of experts that spans the turnaround industry judges and determines the ultimate recipients of the awards.
