Arik Preis Named Among Law360’s Top Young Bankruptcy Lawyers for 2015
(New York) – Akin Gump financial restructuring partner Arik Preis has been named among the top young bankruptcy lawyers by Law360 in its annual “Rising Stars” list.
Noting his tenacity and creativity, Law360 spotlighted, among other engagements, Mr. Preis’ work on Longview Power’s chapter 11 proceedings as co-counsel to a group of lenders who held 65 percent of Longview’s $1 billion secured debt and provided a $150 million debtor-in-possession loan. His work set up a consensual confirmation of Longview’s chapter 11 plan and resolved numerous disputes while ensuring that its flagship $2 billion coal plant would receive much-needed repairs at minimal cost to Longview.
An avid basketball player and former guard on his university’s team, Preis told the publication that he likens working on restructurings to being on the court. He added, “In bankruptcy, you’re always fighting about a finite pot. Given that I like to compete and fight for things, it’s conducive to my nature. I always assume there’s going to be a solution at the end. I will continue fighting and never giving up until something gets done.”
