Variety has quoted Akin Gump public law and policy partner Arshi Siddiqui and entertainment partner Alissa Miller in the article “What’s at Stake for Hollywood in the Presidential Election?” The article reports that the entertainment industry has a lot riding on the outcome of this year’s election.

Among the issues to watch, Variety says, is how the government moves to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, with Hollywood producers hopeful that a Biden administration would take a more aggressive approach to containing the virus than President Trump has.

“If Biden wins, there is a sense that every federal resource will be focused on and dedicated to stamping out the pandemic,” said Siddiqui.

But studios and filmmakers are looking for more than personal protective equipment, the article notes. Some are hoping that the federal government will figure out some way for them to get insured during the pandemic.

“Costs keep going up and these productions need a backstop at the federal level so they get up and running again,” said Miller.
