The Blog of LegalTimes credits Akin Gump with sealing an agreement to permit Japan to enter into negotiations for a new pan-Pacific free-trade agreement. The firm has been lobbying on behalf of the Japanese government for entry into talks for the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement since November 2011.

Scott Parven, a partner in Akin Gump’s public law and policy practice, led the team working on the matter. He tells the publication there is still “much more work” to be done, but the announcement by the United States was a big step that Parven describes as a “game changer.”
