Chris LaFollette Recognized Among National Law Journal’s Outstanding Women Lawyers
(Houston) – Akin Gump is pleased to announce that Houston partner in charge and oil and gas practice head Chris LaFollette has been selected among The National Law Journal’s “Outstanding Women Lawyers.”
The honor recognizes the “most accomplished female attorneys working in the legal profession” who have developed “successful practices, especially new areas of law or practices typically dominated by men; [performed] in significant cases, including those that resulted in key, often precedent-setting rulings, victories at trial, and significant settlements; demonstrated efforts to improve diversity in the profession,” among other factors.
Ms. LaFollette, noted as a mover and shaker in the oil and gas industry, was recognized for being “at the helm of some of the energy industry’s largest deals, representing giant oilfield-services provider Baker Hughes Inc. in a $6.9 billion stock and cash purchase of BJ Services Co. in 2010.” NLJ also spotlighted Ms. LaFollette’s work serving as securities counsel to Baker Hughes in its pending merger with Halliburton Co. as well as representing Laredo Petroleum Inc. in its $1 billion acquisition of Broad Oak Energy Inc.
In 2014, Ms. LaFollette received several notable recognitions, including from Law360 in its “Female Powerbroker” series and from Houston Business Journal in its “Who’s Who in Energy” list, among others, for her work in the energy field. She has also been inducted into the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame for her contributions to advancing women and improving Houstonians’ quality of life and honored by The Tahirih Justice Center for her longstanding support of the organization, which provides lifesaving legal resources and high-impact public policy advocacy on behalf of immigrant women and children fleeing violence.
