Chris LaFollette to Lead Akin Gump in Houston

(Houston, Texas) – Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has appointed Christine B. LaFollette as partner in charge of its Houston office. Ms. LaFollette will oversee the office’s operations, strategic initiatives and overall growth.

R. Bruce McLean, Akin Gump’s chairman, stated, “Chris is a strong leader in the community and has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our clients and to our firm. These virtues will serve her well as leader of the Houston office.”

A member of the firm’s energy and global transactions practice group, Ms. LaFollette has 27 years of experience in Houston advising clients on the full range of public and private securities transactions, with an emphasis on the energy industry. Her clients include issuers and underwriters in public offerings and private placements, restructurings, financings, and federal and state securities matters. She also handles mergers, acquisitions and dispositions, both public and private, and has been named as a leading corporate M&A attorney in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business since 2004.

In addition to serving as a member of the energy and global transaction group’s steering committee, Ms. LaFollette serves on Akin Gump’s management and partner admissions committees. A strong supporter of practice development events focused on clients and alumni in the Houston area, she serves on the steering committee of the firm’s Women’s Professional Development Forum. Active in the Houston community, she is a director of the World Affairs Council of Houston, the National Association of Corporate Directors (Houston Chapter) and the Houston Bar Foundation. She is a member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the United Way and a former trustee of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. She is a sustaining fellow of the Houston Bar Association, a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas and a former chair of the Houston Bar Association’s Corporate Counsel Section.

Ms. LaFollette received her B.S. with highest honors from the University of Texas in 1974 and her J.D. with honors from Loyola University in Los Angeles in 1980.
