Akin Gump partner David Turetsky, a co-head of the firm’s cybersecurity, privacy and data protection initiative, spoke with Communications Daily for its article “Ramirez Likely To Face Questions on FTC’s Active Role, but Confirmation Called Likely” regarding the nomination by President Obama of Edith Ramirez to serve another term as chairwoman of the Federal Trade Commission.

The article says many industry lawyers and privacy advocates expect Ramirez’s nomination to succeed without much opposition. Turetsky agrees, saying she seems to have been effective with her colleagues. While some members of Congress may have concerns about the FTC, he adds that is often true with any federal agency. Ramirez has served as an FTC commissioner since 2010 and as chairwoman since 2013.
