Following the referendum in the United Kingdom to leave the European Union, Akin Gump antitrust partner Davina Garrod was quoted by Marketplace for the story  “Brexit complicates global trade picture.”

The story notes that trade is going to be a big issue for the U.K. as it works out the logistics of leaving the EU. As a current member of the EU’s single market, goods, services and capital trade freely, and the U.K. may seek to remain in the single market, since leaving could make trade more expensive and complex for British importers and exporters.

“Norway, which is not an EU member, could offer a model,” said Garrod. “Norway takes advantage of the single market and can trade freely throughout Europe. However, Norway has no voice in Brussels and Strasburg,” referring to the EU’s de facto capital and the seat of the European Parliament.
