Dino Barajas, an L.A.-based partner in Akin Gump’s global project finance practice, was quoted in the Law360 article “Navy’s Green Resolve Brings Chances for Contractors” on the U.S. presidential election and its impact on the Navy’s biofuel program.

Barajas stated, “The next few months and the results of the presidential election will determine the U.S.’s position within the global biofuels market. The next chapter is yet to be written. If Gov. [Mitt] Romney wins, it would likely be difficult for the Navy to maintain its current biofuels program unless it can be justified on a purely current cost basis.”

Barajas also noted that the prices for biofuels have already gone down as a result of military investments. “The U.S. government’s biofuels initiative has provided the much-needed shot in the arm for the biofuels industry,” he said. “The potential market is immense, and equity investors see the long-term benefits of continuing to support innovative research if a long-term demand can be assured.”
