The New York Times quoted Akin Gump public law and policy partner Ed Pagano for its article “Missing Ingredient on Minimum Wage: A Motivated G.O.P.” which examines the role of the Republican Party in increasing the minimum wage.

President Obama will need support from the Republican Party to raise the minimum wage for American workers, the article notes. However, with a favorable boost in national polling and midterm elections approaching, the party is reluctant to help the president for fear of losing conservative support and business donors, to which Pagano said, “They believe they’ll recapture the majority. Why would they want to upset the status quo?”
