Robin Schachter, a partner in Akin Gump’s employee benefits and executive compensation practice, has been quoted by The Washington Post for the article “The one CEO perk that’s not fading away.”

The perk that the article addresses is the “executive physical,” which some companies offer in the form of comprehensive health evaluations with multiple physicians and tests over a period of a full day or two. The article notes that about one-third of Fortune 500 companies pay for such an exam.

Despite the costs they incur, however, companies and their boards do not receive in return any sort of inside look at the health of their executives. Schachter said, “The board or the company would have no right to the employee’s protected health information under HIPAA and other privacy rules.”
