Financial Times’ “Leading View” column, which covers “the most significant challenges facing business and society,” has cited an article posted to Akin Gump’s AG Deal Diary blog.  The January 22 column, “Refreshing the Board,” discussed the question of “who sits on the board, for how long, and with what effect?”

Looking at the U.S. situation in this regard, columnist Anthony Goodman of Tapestry Networks notes that “the number of shareholder proposals on board diversity has increased with each successive proxy voting season” and quotes the Deal Diary’s “Push to Diversify Boards Picks Up Steam”: “The vast majority of these proposals were withdrawn after proponents and companies reached a resolution. The three proposals that went to a vote averaged 35.8 per cent shareholder support, with one proposal winning majority approval.”
