Former Congressman Tom Loeffler Joins Akin Gump

(Washington, DC)  Former U.S. Rep. Tom Loeffler (R-TX) has joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP as a partner in the firm’s public law and policy practice. Most recently, Mr. Loeffler was co-chairman of the global business advisory company GrayLoeffler, LLC. Mr. Loeffler will practice both in the firm’s Washington, DC, and San Antonio, TX, offices.

Mr. Loeffler served four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the 21st Congressional District of Texas. During his tenure in Congress, Mr. Loeffler served as deputy whip and chief deputy whip as well as on the Appropriations Committee, Energy and Commerce Committee and Budget Committee.

In addition to his four terms in Congress, Mr. Loeffler served as special assistant for legislative affairs to President Gerald R. Ford and as legislative counsel to the late Sen. John Tower. In 1987, President Reagan nominated him to serve as principal coordinator for Central America in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs. Since leaving public service, he has advised candidates in a variety of local, state and national elections.
